A white Crab Spider in a South Somerset garden.

I spotted this white Crab Spider (Misumena vatia) on a rose in my garden.  It obligingly waited for me to dash indoors and grab my camera.

The crab spider does not spin a web to catch its prey but sits and waits -  then pounces as a fly or other small insect passes by.  I have not come across one before, apparently they can change their body colour to white, yellow or green to blend in with their background.

A closer view of the Crab Spider waiting for its prey.
